Jennie recounted to restoration expert Chris Shaw the harrowing incident: "In 1944, my dad was lying in bed in his home in Chingford, and Hitler dropped a bomb to try and hit the reservoirs and hit the front and the roof of my dad's house."
She continued, revealing the miraculous outcome: "And he was found lying with this book on his chest and a big shard of glass sticking out at the back of the book, which pierced well into the book. This is the book that saved my dad's life," reports .
When asked by Chris what she hoped for the book, Jennie expressed her wish: "Well, I would love to be able to hand it on to my kids and for their kids to tell the story." After expertly reassembling the book, rejuvenating its spine and pages, and giving the cover a makeover, Chris was all set to return it to Jennie.
Back at the barn, Jennie confessed: "I've missed the book and I've missed my dad even more. That object signifies his story." Jennie was awestruck as Chris revealed the beautifully restored book, exclaiming: "It's the same but it's different!"
Upon closer examination, Jennie beamed and remarked: "It looks strong. What magic is this!"
