The Welsh opera singer who is currently competing on became a household name after fronting the adverts for insurance comparison site, Go Compare. , 52, showcased his vocal abilities while dressed up for the advert, during which he had a rather outlandish moustache.
But while he gained new fans from the advert, he has also admitted it came with a huge toll after millions of people joined a social media page to say they "hated" him. Wynne explained that the hate page had a higher following than the pages offering their support for him.
During his time representing the comparison website, Wynne has appeared alongside the likes of Louis Spence, Stephen Hawking and even Sue Barker, who all tried to kill him in order to save the nation from his character, Gio Compario, singing. Speaking candidly to Best magazine, Wynne said: "I've been the GoCompare man for 16 years and was the most hated man in Britain at one point."

When probed on whether his Go Compare character could make an appearance on the show, he said: "I think if I rocked up on Strictly as the Go Compare man, someone might have a clutcher. I think the Go Compare man will stay firmly out this series." Elsewhere, Wynne appeared on the Starting Line podcast and revealed he was more hated than the leader of the British National Party.
"2.75 million followers," he revealed when discussing how many followers the hate page had. But he was stunned to discover that the followers rocketed just three weeks after he made his Go Compare debut. Wynne was told by bosses that his "life would change" just hours after the first advert.
He shared: "My mate phones me and he goes 'What a shame that the hate site to you on has got more members than the fan site.'" He explained that the hate site was "I hate Wynne Evans the Go Compare Man," while the fan page was "I love Wynne Evans the Go Compare man."
"I was astonished that there would even be a hate site to me," he said before adding: "I looked at it and I thought 'F**k that's a lot', I thought I needed to get a gage on how hated I am." Wynne later revealed that he looked up public figures who he hated to find out how many followers their hate site had.
"I looked up Nick Griffin, he used to be the leader of the British National Party," he said. Wynne added: "Not a nice man at all. 75,000 people on Facebook agreed with me." This weekend, Wynne found himself at the centre of drama after he controversially of his Strictly professional dance partner , 35, before seeming to move it closer to her stomach. Both he and Katya have insisted that this was a "bad" inside joke and there was no malice behind his actions, nor was she uncomfortable, despite social media speculation.
