Escape to the Country's Nicki Chapman faces setback as couple find 'problem' during search

In the most recent instalment of BBC's beloved Escape to the Country, viewers followed a couple's heartfelt return to the UK.

After leaving the country for an Aussie lifestyle twenty years ago, Andy and Jane were looking to return back to their home turf.

With a budget of £525,000, they told host Nicki Chapman their list of must-haves, which included a home oozing with character, complete with three cosy bedrooms, an easy-to-tend garden and close to local conveniences.

Their first property hunt in Gloucestershire hit the mark, prompting a clearly excited Nicki to fan out across the county in search of more perfect pads for them both.

Next stop, Hawkesbury Upton, where the second house saw Andy and Jane singing praises for the inviting front garden, reports .

Quizzed on their initial thoughts, Jane beamed: "Great! I'd like to see more."

Nicki led the grand tour of the ground floor, before letting the couple venture upstairs on their own.

However, their search was rather brisk as they spotted a potential problem while exploring the property.

Reconvening in the welcoming embrace of the front garden, Nicki commented: "Slightly disappointed, I was hoping you were going to take longer! It's so lovely just sitting there looking out into the garden, sun shining, how did we get on with upstairs?"

Jane conceded: "Yeah great! I think the third floor might be a bit of a problem, having that many stairs as we're getting older but I like the house."

The presenter let slip that the property matched their exact asking price, having noted its recent price reduction.

Andy chipped in, adding: "It is a nice size and it is a nice home, for sure. It's just whether the suitability for us, at the age we're at and we're not getting any younger, would allow us to stay in it for too many years. We're looking for a forever home really I suppose."

With a clear understanding of their position, the hunt pressed on until it was crunch time for Andy and Jane.

Ultimately, they were captivated by the allure of the mystery house and resolved to delve deeper into it, pledging to keep the BBC series informed of their progress.

Escape to the Country continues weekdays on BBC One from 3pm
