Chelsea suffer new injury blow before Liverpool amid triple Enzo Maresca problem

Send Push

Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen was substituted after suffering an injury in the first half of Denmark under-21s' game against Iceland.

The 22-year-old, who joined in a £20m deal from Villarreal in July, was replaced at half-time of Tuesday's game after colliding with a team-mate in the first half of his team's 2-0 win.

Jorgensen, who is yet to feature in the Premier League for Enzo Maresca's side but has played in the Conference League and Carabao Cup, was attempting to clear the ball before suffering the injury scare.

It remains to be seen how serious the issue is, but Jorgensen will now return to West London to reunite with his Chelsea team-mates ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash against Liverpool.

The Blues are already without the suspended Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella for Sunday's trip to Anfield, though it remains to be seen if they will be joined on the sidelines by the Denmark youth international. Reece James remains sidelined.

Jorgensen has played just four times for Chelsea since his move from Spain, with three of those appearances coming in the UEFA Conference League.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca will give an update on Jorgensen as well as the rest of his squad later this week ahead of the match. He usually speaks to the media on Fridays.
